The purpose of the Veritas Collegiate Academy is to provide a cost-effective hybrid program of public and Christian education that "takes every thought captive" for the glory of God. Students in the Academy will develop wisdom and knowledge through a small group mentorship program that includes supplementary lectures and writings from some of the world's most outstanding Christian scholars. Students will receive a Biblically-based education in comparative worldviews and Christian apologetics which will prepare them to face challenges with courage, conviction, and faith in their Creator, Lord, and Saviour in the classroom and throughout their lives.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.2 Corinthians 10:5
THE CHALLENGE AND THE HYBRID SOLUTION
The primary problem with public education is its lack of a solid foundation for the proper understanding of our origin, purpose, and ultimate destiny. The problems with private Christian education are two-fold: isolation and cost. Students are often isolated in small Christian communities where they cannot easily act as salt and light among their public school peers. In addition, Christian education is, for all too many, prohibitively expensive.
The problem with the lack of a Biblical foundation in our public schools is not likely to be solved from the inside. It won't be solved by our teachers, their unions, or our politicians. It must be solved by Christians - within the framework of the Church - who are committed to positively influencing their public schools while giving their children an academically rigorous Christian worldview. If the truth regarding our origin, purpose, and destiny is to reach the public school classroom, it must be done by courageous Christian students under the guidance and mentorship of dedicated instructors within the body of Christ.
The problem of isolation is solved by keeping students enrolled in public schools while being mentored in small groups by dedicated Christians as part of the educational mission of the Church.
The problem of cost is minimized by taking advantage of state-subsidized high schools, colleges, and universities while paying only for the cost of supplementary materials and the support of a mentor. In many cases, local churches may want to subsidize the cost of its mentors and fold any additional expenses into their educational programs.
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.""You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16
The value of The Veritas Collegiate Academy's hybrid solution lies in recognizing that much of the content within public and Christian schools overlaps. Calculus is calculus and chemistry is chemistry. While other courses will depart from a Biblical perspective in varying degrees, the Veritas Collegiate Academy builds upon the best within public high schools, colleges, and universities while augmenting and correcting areas of deficiency. In short, the Academy provides a solid foundation for much of the structure and content of public education while acting to correct religious and philosophical errors wherever they may be found.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect ...2 Peter 3:15
REACHING YOUR GOAL
The primary goal of the Academy is to give students the opportunity to build a solid Biblical foundation for their lives. A secondary goal is to enable students to complete all of the lower division requirements for a college or university education prior to the time they would normally graduate from high school.
Imagine receiving the first two years of a Christ-centered college education in a small group setting at a fraction of the cost of a traditional Christian high school or college education. Imagine completing your general education requirements and virtually all of the prerequisites for upper division coursework at a college or university in the same amount of time it would take to graduate from high school. Imagine being one of twelve "disciples" under a dedicated Christian instructor who not only teaches Biblical wisdom and knowledge but who helps to detect and correct false beliefs and teachings that his or her students may encounter with their friends or in their public schools. Imagine following the Lord's directive to be in the world but not of it. Imagine being able to influence public education (both teachers and fellow students) simply by being prepared to ask an informed question or give a reason for the superiority of the Christian worldview.
Finally, imagine saving a lot of time and money in the process.
Is all of this really possible?
The answer is a clear and resounding, yes!
Here is how it is done:
The Veritas Collegiate Academy is a 21st Century hybrid college-level program that combines advanced placement classes at local high schools and courses offered online and at local community colleges with Christian mentoring and instruction in a small group setting. Supplementing the accredited college-level courses are lectures, debates, articles, and books from the top Christian scholars in the world.
